Our University has been the beneficiary of 7 MSCA PF since 2017, including one MSCA-PF with an evaluation of 100/100 in 2021.Brief description of Research Group:The Heritage, Architecture & Landscape Research Group ( Patrimonio, Arquitectura y Paisaje, PA&P) has been active at USP-CEU since 2005.
A total of 18 researchers, collaborators, and research assistants from different Universities have contributed to research advances in the field of urban and peri-urban landscape from multidisciplinary backgrounds (i.E.
architects, historians, sociologists, urban planners, agronomists, landscape architects).Focused mainly on the city of Madrid and its metropolitan area, the PA&P group has explored the role of green space and infrastructure in urban settings, addressing landscape perception, heritage conservation, urban morphology, and citizens' place-attachment and well-being.The group has been granted multiple research projects over the years from the Spanish Ministry of Education/Innovation and private entities.
Their members have published over 50 scientific papers, books, and book chapters; multiple PhD students have completed their theses within the group.Research Project Description: Peri-urban landscapes, assessing visual and social perceptions across EuropePeri-urban areas in Europe are growing four times faster than urban areas and are predicted to double in surface in the next 30 to 50 years.
These areas have a unique character, generally determined by the interweaving of grey and green infrastructure.
Green infrastructure plays a key role in improving living environments by enhancing environmental quality, supporting biodiversity, and improving public health and well-being.
Understanding peri-urban areas is crucial, especially in the context of global crises impacting Europe's climate and biodiversity decline.This project aims to address the following questions:How are peri-urban areas perceived in Europe?What features, elements, or common topics are associated with peri-urban areas, how are they perceived by the community, and how do they differ across European cities?To address these questions, visual and social perception analyses will be conducted in selected case studies in Europe, involving field trips and community interaction through in-depth interviews, go-alongs, photovoice, and Q-methodology techniques with relevant local stakeholders.
