The category manager is responsible to provide thought leadership by clear articulation of category vision, holistic long-term category and shopper strategy that drive sustainable growth for Suntory Global Spirits (SGS), and help shape our growth strategies and deliver commercial and brand priorities with Marketing, Revenue Growth & Sales team. A true team player, this person is responsible for evolving the customer relationships to realize growth at a category level through providing clear articulation of strategic insights underpinned by macro trend, category specific insights & shopper behaviours. The Category Manager is responsible for building and leading the category strategy for the SGS portfolio. This role is designed to create the link between the company & Customers to continuously identify mid-long term category growth opportunities and the roles our portfolio plays within it. This is achieved through an in-depth understanding of the category; the channels and retailers' role within it and the retailers' category strategy and priorities while working closely with Marketing, Sales, Insights, Revenue Growth and Planning teams. Role Responsibilities CATEGORY STRATEGIES & GROWTH INITIATIVES Provide category foresights for total market, and at each key customer level and at each state level Develop mid/long term category insights across subcategories and channels to shape our growth initiatives Provide inputs to shape our mid-term direction that drives our portfolio & innovation strategies SHOPPER/CATEGORY INSIGHTS Provide deep understanding of shopper behaviours, needs & drivers for the category Seek out other market trends, insights or case studies to help shape the thinking where relevant (through International) Align shopper and category insights to support our portfolio / brand / innovation strategy and shape our category vision Provide holistic shopper insights to enable clear articulation of benefits of our brand / innovation strategies to category strategies MARKET & COMPETITOR INSIGHTS Provide holistic understanding of drivers and detractors of key competitor brands, the assumptions of their mid-term strategy and priorities Provide in-depth quarterly reviews of brand & NPDs by key channels and customers, the performance and growth drivers, detractors (pricing, place and BTL & customer promotion) and the shopper insights Work with Commercial Finance team to analyze competitors P&L; structure, the implication ACTIONABLE INSIGHTS FOR PLANNING Leverage Global Demand Space framework and shopper studies to enable our brand priorities Support the alignment of annual brand plans to category drivers in an engaging format for customer planning Support development of sell story for Innovations based on category vision & strategy Provide category and shopper insights for successful NPD development and launches STRATEGY FOCUSED CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENTS Develop a category framework and actionable insights for customer planning day By co-leading customer planning day encapsulating development of category insights, implication to portfolio and innovation strategies with clear links to customer strategies and priorities Lead preparation and delivery of range reviews where applicable COMMERCIAL ENABLEMENT Responsible for delivery of commercial results (NSV, Volume & Share) Responsible for understanding behind the monthly Demand Plan numbers Support internal reporting in relation to category performance including performance scorecards and TBL analysis Provide stakeholder appropriate insights for our portfolio and brand performance that are tailored for cross-functional teams & reporting Provide inputs for strategy reviews, co-lead annual budget and target setting process OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and embed internal category training and tools Qualifications FMCG Category Management expertise (10 years min) FMCG National Account Sales Management (2 years min preferred) University Degree (Preferred Commerce / Business Discipline) Project Management (Advanced working skills) Database knowledge (Nielsen, IRI, Kantar) Advanced analytical capabilities (strong aptitude for statistics, mathematics, or business analytics) Application of Shopper and behavioral insights Advanced Computer Literacy in Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint Job Specific Competencies Able to develop and articulate a strategic framework Strong ability to synthesize various data and insights, strong ability to translate complex to simple Ability to flex between attention to details to big picture Ability to think outside of the box, think holistically and challenge status quo Ability to think both conceptually and practically – backed up with a genuine desire to get results and make a difference with customers Capable of challenging and influencing thinking across a broad range of stakeholders Ability to work cross-functionally with internal & external stakeholders Strong commercial experience, customer management & demonstrated collaboration skill essential Masterful at creating synergies across our consumer, shopper, and customer agenda Strong Leadership drive, influence, and judgment Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work well within teams Self-motivated, responsive, and tenacious Key Relationships Channel Manager and Activation Managers Sales managers Commercial Finance Managers Marketing Team Innovation Team Insights Manager SGS International Category Team At Suntory Global Spirits, people are our number one priority, and we believe our people grow together in diverse and inclusive environments where their unique insights, experiences, and backgrounds are valued and respected.
