Based in Barcelona, Spain, the firm's mission is to provide highly scalable solutions which deliver clean, affordable energy while reducing carbon emissions across the globe.The company is currently in the pre-commercial phase of its technology development and has managed to position itself as one of the front runners of the floating offshore wind sector, having been able to deploy and test the first fully functional TLP floating wind platform in the world (in late 2022), under the PivotBuoy project (X30).Our sustainable, innovative, and disruptive technology has garnered significant public support, allowing us to progress in proving its operational viability. This backing will propel our next milestone: installing a pre-commercial 6MW floating wind prototype (X90) at the Mistral test site in the French Mediterranean Sea.Position: Lead Mechanical EngineerResponsibilities In this role you will be responsible for activities contributing to the design and development of wind turbine floaters mechanical components. You will be designing mechanical components in SolidWorks and checking their structural integrity in Ansys both for ultimate and fatigue loads. Scaled prototypes will be built to study the potential failure modes and to confirm the technical feasibility in collaboration with suppliers. Functions Conceptual design of new mechanicalsystems and structural components. Conduct technical feasibilities of the possible design solutions, generating 3D models and performing basic structural, mechanical and performance analysis of the chosen solution, as well as FMECA analysis of mechanical systems Review the system integration, by analyzing all the interfaces including the structures, electrical/control systems and hydraulic equipment. Also taking into account their manufacturing feasibility, cost, transportability and assembly. Build accurate Ansys Workbench models and sub models to capture the behavior of hyperelastic materials as well as the entire assembly dynamic behavior. Carry suppliers research and support manufacturing processes, with issue resolution and quick corrective actions for design related causes. Prepare all needed documentation for the project execution including technical specifications for suppliers and calculation reports for certification. Support the floater simulation models generation providing all needed inputs. Support functional testing and endurance testing on full scale prototypes. Participate in technical root cause analysis of failures and define corrective actions. Delivering products as part of a team. Leading analytical and design activities using existent and new technologies and methods. Requirements To be successful in this role you will have: Master's in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college. Relevant work experience with CAD – CAE engineering tools such as Ansys and Solid Works. Minimum of 3 yrs. of experience in Mechanical Component design and Analysis with minimum 2 yrs. of hands-on experience. Demonstrated ability to work horizontally across stakeholders to influence outcomes. Strong interpersonal skills including: ownership, self-motivated, problem solving, analytical, team player, communication skills and ability to develop relationships Fluent in Spanish and English (spoken and written). Additional useful characteristics Experience in structures ultimate limit and fatigue analysis, systems dynamics and experimental validation. Knowledge of Naval engineering, offshore energy and/or O&G mechanical solutions.
