BSC promotes Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, fostering an environment where every individual is appreciated for who they are, regardless of differences.Context And Mission The Earth Sciences Department of Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-ES) develops global climate models to perform climate experiments at frontier spatial resolutions. The Department is looking for a research engineer or scientist to assist in the development of high-resolution global simulations with the IFS/NEMO climate model.Key DutiesModify and test several model features to ensure that the IFS-NEMO-SI3 model is suitable for producing physically sound climate simulations.Collaborate with members of the Earth Sciences Department to test the latest model and workflow developments.Conduct and evaluate numerical simulations for model tuning and spin-up.Contribute to the production of the final Destination Earth and EERIE experiments and their assessment.RequirementsEducation Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, applied mathematics, physics, or related discipline.A PhD and work experience in meteorology/oceanography will be considered an asset.Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience Advanced knowledge in high-level computer languages (especially FORTRAN) and experience with UNIX/LINUX environments.Experience working with numerical models of ocean, atmosphere, and other Earth system components.Experience in using HPC architectures and parallel programming will be valued.Fluency in English.Competences Reliable and constructive interpersonal skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to take initiatives, prioritize, and work under set deadlines.ConditionsThe position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department.We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week) with a good working environment.Duration: Open-ended contract linked to project and budget duration.Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.Starting date: 01/12/2024.Applications procedure and process All applications must be made through the BSC website and contain a full CV in English and a Cover Letter.Deadline The vacancy will remain open until a suitable candidate has been hired.OTM-R principles for selection processes BSC-CNS is committed to the principles of the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers of the European Commission.#J-18808-Ljbffr
