NoOffer Description The Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM) is a research institute under the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). It is situated and belongs to the International Excellence Campus Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)-CSIC, in a privileged area on the outskirts of Madrid, surrounded by other research institutes. ICMM comprises over 300 researchers and staff members and conducts both theoretical and experimental research in all fields of Physics and Chemistry through nearly 30 research teams.The technician will join the ESISNA group, headed by Prof. Dr. José Ángel Martín Gago, which, among other research activities, is devoted to laboratory astrochemistry to unveil the formation of cosmic dust and complex organic molecules using nanoscience approaches. ESISNA hosts the STARDUST machine, a worldwide unique experimental facility designed and built within the ERC-Synergy project NANOCOSMOS. STARSDUST is dedicated to mimic in the laboratory the conditions of evolved stars and is able to simulate all the journey of cosmic dust from its formation in dying stars to its processing in the interstellar medium and dense molecular clouds.The STARDUST machine is a complex ultra-high vacuum (UHV) station that hosts multiple UHV equipment and necessitates proper maintenance and periodic upgrades in the instrumentation. The technician will be responsible for the maintenance, instrumentation upgrades, and design and technical preparation of experiments for the international users within the EU project NFFA-Europe-Pilot. The technician will have the opportunity to contribute to challenging, exciting research projects both for astrochemistry and nanoscience.Requirements The candidate must have a master's degree in Engineering or Physics with a proven background in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) instrumentation.
