What You Will Do

The researcher will be a member of the research and development team at the R&D center in Toledo, interacting closely with organic and computational chemists. The researcher will learn to support the activities in drug discovery, in particular the development of new molecules using computational chemistry to rationalize and predict molecular structure-activity relations. The computational tools that will be used include molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, cheminformatics software and homology modeling. During the 12 months period at the R&D center, the researcher will receive both practical and theoretical training on the application of computational chemistry to medicinal chemistry, with a focus on the selection of the most appropriate computational techniques, the analysis and the interpretation of experimental data and the communication of scientific results.

The Computer Aided Drug Discovery (CADD) group within R&D is focused on the use of modelling and computational approaches to understand the interactions between molecules, their putative biological targets, and the therapeutic consequences. The group plays a key role collaborating with therapeutic areas and other functional scientific areas to apply modelling in the discovery of new drugs.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field obtained in the last four yearsNo previous working experience in a position related to the academic degree after the degree was obtainedNot having been the recipient of similar internship grants in the pastInterest in computational chemistry and experience with molecular modeling molecular dynamics simulationsExperience working with shell scripting in Unix/Linux environments and Python coding

The CITIUS internship ("PROGRAMA CITIUS") has a duration of 12 months and consists both in an industry-specific training plan and an academic training plan.
