Orbital Paradigm aims at enabling a thriving in-space industry, including orbit as an integral pathway for Earth logistics.

We’re building small highly autonomous space reentry capsules to deliver streamlined, high-cadence transportation from orbit to Earth, enabling in-space manufacturing, experimentation, advanced orbital operations and services.

Our software-centric spacecraft leverage an advanced autopilot allowing multiple mission profiles, ensuring low-acceleration return and accurate landing, and an in-house developed radiative heatshield for enhanced reusability.


OP is looking for an Avionics Engineer to join the team. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing the avionics architecture and units for the OP spacecraft, ensuring they meet both technical and programmatic requirements.will be responsible for developing the avionics architecture and units for the OP spacecraft, ensuring they meet technical and programmatic requirements. In addition, the Avionics Engineer will actively participate in co-engineering efforts with the rest of the engineering department to support the development of OP capsules, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration to achieve integrated solutions. The role also includes contributing to the preparation of proposals and bids, defining technical strategies, roadmaps and work packages.


For this position the company gives preference to candidates holding a PhD.


Your role and responsibilities

The Avionics Engineer shall have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Design, define, and develop avionics systems and equipment, ensuring functionality, reliability, and performance.
  • Develop prototypes for avionics units and components, including payload control systems, telecommunications, onboard computers, and GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) avionics.
  • Define the overall avionics architecture and lead the selection of components, units, and hardware required for system development and integration.
  • Design and develop electronic circuits for key functions such as signal conditioning, payload management, communication interfaces, and flight control systems.
  • Subsystem Integration: Support the integration of avionics subsystems within the spacecraft architecture, ensuring compatibility, interoperability, and performance alignment across all systems.

This role requires a combination of technical expertise, hands-on experience, and leadership to deliver reliable avionics systems that support high-cadence, autonomous space transportation.


Qualifications

  • PhD in Industrial Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or related technical field.
  • 2-4 years of direct industry experience in avionics and hardware engineering for systems/subsystems and payload and/or other equivalent applications, preferably for spacecraft
  • In case of candidates recently graduated and without work experience, internships in similar roles will be required.


Required Technical Skills

We understand that no candidate may possess the entire skillset listed below, but the ideal candidate should demonstrate strong capabilities in most of the following areas:

  • Experience with rapid prototyping of flight avionics hardware and software, from concept to testing.
  • Proven experience in the design, analysis, development, and testing of space avionics systems and units.
  • Proficiency in hands-on development and implementation of real-time embedded software and systems.
  • Expertise in avionics architecture, including data-handling systems and subsystem interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience in hardware integration, assembly, integration, and verification (AIT/AIV), as well as validation and verification (V&V) processes.
  • Experience with avionics equipment integration, functional testing, and troubleshooting in complex system environments.
  • Knowledge of space standards (ECSS, MIL-STD, NASA-HBK)
  • Knowledge of safety-critical systems, and RAMS, FDIR, FMECA
  • Knowledge of electronic design tools, software and processes

This role requires a strong balance of technical expertise and practical experience to contribute to the development of advanced space return systems.

  • Job Location: Madrid, Spain (Fully Remote work can be considered on specific case-by-case basis)
  • 30 days of holidays: 23 days free to choose, 3 extra days in Easter week, 4 extra days in Christmas' week.
  • Remote working: up to 2 days per week working from home. 2 weeks of remote working from any location +-1h time
