Junior Security Software Engineer

Openchip is building new RISC-V chips with security at the core, enabling safer and more privacy-respectful execution of data processing workloads like AI models.

The Role

As a Junior Security Software Engineer, you will design and implement security features across Openchip's software stack : from low-level platform firmware to integrations with AI and Cloud runtimes. You will also contribute to hardware / software co-design, provide requirements, identify potential IPs, and engage with the wider security community.

Key Responsibilities

• Make independent technical contributions to help their team deliver its commitments, including :
• Develop and maintain security features for hardware architectures (RISC-V and others).
• Implement secure boot, confidential computing, cryptography, and other platform security features.
• Define and modify interfaces to expose security features to user applications, leveraging existing standards when possible.
• Collaborate with colleagues across projects to unblock issues or reach consensus on technical topics, including :
• Work with firmware and OS teams to incorporate security features into low-level and platform software.
• Work with middleware teams to expose security features to applications and hardening frameworks.
• Participate in code reviews, bug triaging, and design documentation.
• Contribute to team responsibilities such as CI failure triaging, documentation, and code fixes.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field.
• 1-3 years of experience in the relevant field.
• Solid knowledge of computer architecture (CPU, cache, memory hierarchy, buses).
• Knowledge of at least two of the following areas :
• Confidential computing technologies (e.g., RISC-V CoVE, Intel SGX, TDX, AMD SEV).
• Platform security features (kernel / firmware hardening, CHERI, CFI, virtualization security, IOMMU).
• Cryptography across networks (certificates, TLS / SSL, PKI, remote attestation).
• Boot integrity technologies (UEFI Secure Boot, measured boot, TPM).
• Experience with cryptography libraries (OpenSSL, wolfSSL, mbedtls, libsodium).
• Good understanding of pre-boot and boot processes, Linux kernel internals.
• Proficiency in low-level languages (C, Rust).
• Experience with source control (git), CI tools, and task management (Jira).
• English proficiency minimum B2.

Preferred Qualifications

• Assembly language experience.
• Experience with hypervisors (KVM, Xen, QEMU).
• Knowledge of system boot technologies (UEFI / EDK2, ACPI, U-Boot, devicetree).
• Open source software development experience and contributions to security organizations.
• Understanding of firmware lifecycle management.
• Experience with hardware cryptography IPs.
