Senior R&D Engineer Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of modern web-based applications that leverage new and existing Ansys Structures technology.

This role involves using advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives. You will work collaboratively to expose backend services in intuitive web-based applications while following best practices for robust and secure software development.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Participate in planning, architecture, and research activities
  • Perform complex development tasks requiring extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design, and solver research
  • Employ best practices and maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring
  • Verify bugs, conduct release testing, and provide beta support for assigned products
  • Research problems discovered by QA or product support and develop solutions
  • Understand marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria, and competitive issues
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities
  • Manage interns or co-ops, but typically do not have direct reports

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 3 years' experience, or PhD with 1 year experience
  • Experience with client-server architecture and development
  • Experience with Web APIs (REST, gRPC, WebSocket, etc.)
  • Commercial experience with software design and development methodologies
  • Passion for understanding complex problems and crafting innovative technical solutions
  • Inquisitive and rigorous mindset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Production experience and excellent technical knowledge with at least one web framework (Angular, React, etc.)
  • Experience with DevOps tools and CI pipeline development
  • Experience deploying & maintaining customer-facing web applications in a commercial software environment
