Our Flight Software Systems Competence Centre, part of the Avionics Business Unit within the Flight Systems Directorate, is dedicated to the specification, design, development, and validation of Embedded Software and Hardware systems for space vehicles, including GNC systems, GNSS, image processing, verification facilities, and more. What's the challenge?

As a Software Engineer for Verification and Validation, you will lead and contribute to the Verification and Validation process according to the SW Development and Product Assurance Plans. This includes tasks such as verifying SW requirements and design, ensuring correctness, completeness, and traceability, defining applicable coding standards, and maintaining compliance. You will also specify and execute unit tests, integration tests, and validation tests, while contributing to the definition of the validation platform(s). Additionally, you will participate in Independent Software Verification and Validation (ISVV) projects.

Your contributions will include:

  • Leading the Verification and Validation process in accordance with the SW Development and Product Assurance Plans.
  • Verifying SW requirements and design, ensuring readability, correctness, completeness, and traceability.
  • Verifying source code, defining applicable coding standards, and ensuring compliance.
  • Specifying unit tests, integration tests, and validation tests, maintaining traceability to the SW requirements.
  • Contributing to the definition of validation platforms where tests shall be executed.
  • Participating in Independent Software Verification and Validation (ISVV) projects.

What we're looking for:

Educational background:

  • Required: A recognized engineering degree (Computer Sciences, Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications) or a related degree (e.g., Aerospace) with demonstrable experience in computer systems and software engineering.
  • Appreciated: Postgraduate studies (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) with a focus on software engineering, real-time software, or embedded systems design.

Professional experience:

  • Required: A minimum of 3 years of practical experience in domains relevant to the post. Experience obtained while pursuing relevant M.Sc. & Ph.D. studies may also be considered.
  • Industrial experience in the aerospace sector and/or critical software development will be viewed positively.

Technical skills:

  • Solid theoretical background in Software Engineering, especially testing and verification approaches along the Software life-cycle.
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards related to SW development, particularly ECSS-E-ST-40C and ECSS-Q-ST-80C.
  • Experience or knowledge of SW Coding Standards (MISRA-C).
  • Good programming skills (C, C++, Python).
  • Knowledge of software configuration control tools (e.g., GIT, SVN).
  • Ability to generate project documentation, including requirements specifications, SW design, and other engineering documentation.

Additional valued skills:

  • Practical experience in the development of software with safety-critical or real-time requirements in related industrial contexts (e.g., ESA programmes, Aero/Automotive/Rail, or other safety-critical software).
  • Experience with DevOps infrastructure, continuous integration strategies, and tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, SonarQube, etc.).
  • Experience with requirement management using DOORS.
  • Experience with multithread applications, real-time operating systems (e.g., RTEMS, VxWorks, FreeRTOS), or embedded computers (e.g., LEON, ARM).

Language skills:

  • Proficiency in English and Spanish.
