The Controls Lead Engineer manages all engineering activities of a project related to Controls Hardware and Software to ensure timely delivery, adherence to scope, quality, budget, and standards. Responsibilities include estimating and managing project risks, planning, scheduling, and acting as the main contact for controls engineering. The role reports to the Project Manager or Project Lead Engineer and involves overseeing the full project cycle from sales to handover.

General Responsibilities

  • Identify improvements to engineering processes and prepare supporting documentation

Project Readiness

  • Support sales during the sales phase by providing technical advice, estimation, project scheduling, and understanding engineering skill requirements
  • Review the solution as sold

Project Management

  • Ensure appropriate resources from the Controls Engineering Team are available for project execution
  • Act as main controls engineering contact for project stakeholders
  • Lead project controls engineering teams, allocate tasks, and report progress
  • Maintain project status reports, financial forecasts, and schedule updates
  • Manage project risks, escalate issues, and ensure quality gates are met
  • Conduct safety audits and support lessons learned sessions

Delivery of Key Project Milestones

  • Manage BOMs, procurement, manufacturing, and installation timelines
  • Approve specifications and ensure quality documentation
  • Manage design risk assessments and safety validations
  • Coordinate technical drawings and customer deliverables
  • Support production of operational and safety documentation

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree in a technical engineering discipline
  • Understanding of machinery safety (desirable)
  • Experience in a similar role and industrial automation (5+ years)
  • Leadership in complex projects and knowledge of project processes
  • Familiarity with technical manuals, ISO standards, and travel flexibility (20-50%) within EMEA

  • Proficiency with MS Project, JIRA, and project management tools
  • Ability to make technical design decisions
