TELEFONICA RESEARCH

Telefonica Research is a renowned industrial research lab located in Barcelona, Spain. The lab focuses on conducting research in various technological domains relevant to the Telefónica Group. Operating with an open research model, the Research group collaborates with universities and research institutions to share their work through publications and technology transfer. The team comprises diverse experts in systems, networks, HCI, Machine Learning, and Privacy/Security. We are currently looking for talented individuals to join us in staff researcher roles to enhance our ongoing projects, especially in the areas of privacy and security in machine learning technologies.

MISSION

As a researcher, you will have the chance to propose and develop research ideas independently and in collaboration with the Telefonica research team and other units within the organization. You will also establish and lead strong partnerships with academic institutions, industry partners, clients, and government bodies. Additionally, your role will involve disseminating research findings through publications and demonstrations globally, creating intellectual property, and collaborating with business units to ensure the successful implementation of research outcomes. Furthermore, you will actively seek funding opportunities at national, European, and international levels.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Propose and develop innovative research ideas in your field.
  • Build and lead collaborative relationships with academic institutions, industry partners, clients, and government agencies.
  • Share research outcomes through publications and demonstrations at major academic and industry events worldwide.
  • Generate Intellectual Property for the Telefonica research team and other units.
  • Establish partnerships with business units to maximize the impact of research outputs.
  • Supervise interns, collaborate with fellow researchers, and engage with other members of Telefonica.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities through proposal writing for grants at national, European, and international levels.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Ph.D. in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Privacy/Security, Networking, or related fields. (Ph.D. expected in the next few months is also acceptable).

SPECIFIC SKILLS

  • Demonstrated track record of high-quality research output (e.g., publications in top venues).
  • Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Effective and concise communication of ideas and results.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Solid expertise in researching security and privacy aspects of machine learning systems.
  • Proficiency in utilizing tools (methodologies, software, testbeds, models, etc.) relevant to the specified areas of research.
