  • InstitutionALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center, this last in partnership with other institutions. Currently constructing multiple more beamlines, expanding the Electron Microscopy Center, and integrating advanced data analytics, it sums up a wide range of infrastructures geared toward finding solutions to societal challenges.


Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament de Recerca i Universitats).

The synchrotron light produced by 3 GeV electrons is used by thousands of researchers to analyse and understand the properties and functionality of matter, spanning a wide variety of fields, such as catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage.

  • TasksWe are looking for an Electronics Engineer eager to take on new challenges while contributing to:
  • Electronics instrumentation installation, commissioning and support to the operation of an Xray core level ambient pressure photoelectron spectroscopy (APXPS) and Surface X ray diffraction (SXRD).
  • Upgrades and support to either other operative or new beamlines.
  • Upgrades and support to the operation of the accelerator control hardware.
  • New instrumentation developments.
  • RequirementsApplications that do not present the aforementioned or required documentation during the selection procedure will not be accepted.

Formal Education:

  • University degree in Electronics engineering, Telecommunications engineering or other discipline of proven similar technological capacities.

Previous knowledge and experience in the following fields:

  • Experience proficient use of scientific instrumentation (electromemeters, RF generators, function generators, high bandwitch oscilloscopes ) (3 years working experience minimum)
  • Experience in configuration of stepper motor controllers (3 years working experience minimum)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with a focus on electronics hardware design, gained in an accelerator, similar scientific institution, or an R&D electronics department.

  • C1 English level required

As a first phase, an analysis of the curriculum will be carried out (assessment of previous experience and / or scientific history, degree, training and other professional information relevant to the position).

Career breaks or variations in the chronological order of CVs will be regarded as an evolution of a career, and consequently, as a contribution to the professional development.

The assessment of the CV in the competition phase will be 40 points, which will consider the following aspects:

  • Data acquisition systems (DAQ) (max 10 points)
  • Electromechanical systems based on stepper motors and relative/absolute encoders for high positioning precision (μm to nm) (max 10 points)
  • Printed Circuit Board design and electronic assembly (max 10 points)
  • Detectors for Xray experimental techniques (Macromolecular crystallography (MX) Diffraction, Absorption) (max 10 points)
The evaluation of the previous points will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Theoretical background (acquired during professional experience, internships or university practices)
  • 30% of max points.
  • Experience in Design and implementation (personal project developments including professional, degree project or similar) 60% of max points
  • Demonstrable Professional Experience of 2 years minimum 100% of max points.
