About the Role


Our Corporate Solutions team needs an Underwriter to generate and underwrite new business in the Property sector with experience in Manufacturing process & Property Insurance to deal with brokers and clients in the Iberia region and assisting in other European countries.


Together with the Spanish team you will:

  • Extend & consolidate our footprint as a recognized insurance partner by assessing, proposing and negotiating the insurance conditions for all kind of large and midsize companies ,mainly focus on International and Domestic programs as well as operational property and business interruption coverages on a wide range of activities.
  • Work closely with the Spanish team in respect of clients and brokers.
  • Assess risks, coverage, terms and conditions. Drive the related underwriting processes and assure an appropriate risk management when in a lead position. Triages new submissions quickly and effectively.
  • As a member of the Property community act as a point of reference on technical issues in the region and keep track on new technologies and market trends.
  • Contribute in the development of marketing strategies for the region and represent Corporate Solutions in meetings with brokers and clients, reporting your progress regularly to the Head P&S Spain and the Head of Property for the EMEA region.
  • Support the growth of associated lines of business by actively crossselling the capabilities of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and contribute to the development of solutions that are tailored to our clients' needs.

About the Team
We are a team of 6 Property & Specialty UW based in Madrid. We work in a friendly and professional environment of trust and teamwork. We interact with our clients/brokers directly, lead the negotiation and develop strong relationships. In our team, you will be close to the decision makers.

About You


We are looking for a self-starter with the drive to take the initiative and tackle targets in a goal-oriented manner.

You feel fully at home in the cultural and business environment in Spain & Portugal countries and ideally other European markets and can fall back on 3 years of experience in Property underwriting.

Your sales and negotiation skills coupled with your cultural sensitivity and in-depth sector familiarity will form the basis for your success in establishing new contacts and originating new business.


Professional Qualifications & Experience:

  • Engineering degree
  • Minimum of three years of Property underwriting experience with a primary insurance in the Spanish market and with experience in Domestic Business & handling International Programs.
  • Some experience as a professional engineer in the industry, ideally including managerial roles and with sound experience as a project engineer or on site supervision.
  • Strong team player, business acumen, entrepreneurial mindset
  • Strong broker and client network
  • Excellent negotiating/communication and social skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and managing a high work load
  • Availability for travel
  • Languages: Spanish and English are required
  • MBA or postgraduate degree in economics, finance or business administration is considered an advantage
