What you'll learn & achieve:

UL is seeking an
Senior Storage Engineer to join our Solar team.

This role will have a main focus on projects across the European and Latin America region and more globally as per business demands.


  • Manage high profile Independent Engineering and Technical Advisory projects for project financing, sales and acquisitions primarily for storage projects and portfolios (either hybrid or standalone).
  • Review battery energy storage system dispatch forecasts for comparison to offtake agreements.
  • Take the lead on the analysis of gridconnected behindthemeter/frontthemeter systems (using HOMER Grid, Homer Front).
  • Analyse and model the revenue assumptions depending on the intended use case of the storage systemModeling of the battery degradation, state of charge, charge and discharge rates, round trip efficiencies, energy use and consumption, and other system limitations.
  • Project design of storage solutions taking into regulatory, technical, and administrative constraints;
  • Support and compile and complete IE and TA reports and summarize key results and conclusions. Ensure a quality of work that meets and exceeds client expectations. Integrate all review sections from UL and subconsultants' multidisciplinary team and ensure that UL technical and commercial analysis is consistent throughout sections.
  • Support the preparation of proposals detailing the scope of work, team, budget and schedule for completion.
  • Work with internal resources, associate project managers, project managers, as well as subconsultants. Ensure project deliverables stay on time, on target, and budget.
  • Work with Lenders and Developers as the main client interface for UL. Attend client meetings with lenders and developers as needed and interface with clients, attend meetings, explain results, and engage with clients to develop creative solutions to meet client needs.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to identify project risks, barriers, and issues and propose possible solutions and mitigation strategies.
  • Review of project contracts and financial models.
  • Perform site visits during construction and operation and perform monthly construction monitoring site visits to review progress against technical specifications, budget and milestone schedule. Compile and review site visit reports and monthly construction monitoring reports.
  • Support UL's due diligence cost databases including providing updates from project datasets.
  • Represent UL at conferences and business development meetings as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What makes you a great fit:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or master's degree in renewable energy, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 6+ years experience in the industry (Storage). Experience in Energy Storage projects and Energy Storage system design with a focus on largescale projects.
  • Good experience and exposure to solar PV and other renewable technologies would be positive
  • Strong understanding of power electronics and different storage technologies, and market conditions for storage development.
  • Experience with simulation software for BESS and Homer Grid and coding would be positive
  • Experience and understanding of the BESS market with knowledge of key suppliers, deployments and track record of the system configurations, BESS architecture, commissioning process and testing methodologies
  • Good understanding of storage regulatory aspects and grid connection related aspects in key markets in Europe and Latin America
  • Good understanding of the revenues stack model and the remuneration profile of the storage assets
  • Good understanding of the permitting necessary for the development and installation of storage units (either hybrid or standalone)
