Research is organized in three main areas, Malaria and other Infectious Diseases, Child and Maternal Health, and Urban Health, Climate & Non-Communicable Diseases.

What We Are Looking for:

Key Responsibilities:

Genomic Epidemiology Research:

  • Conduct research in genomic epidemiology, specifically related to malaria transmission dynamics.
  • Lead projects focused on characterizing the genetic flow and spatial trends of Pfalciparum genetic populations in Mozambique within the framework of the GenMoz2 Project.
  • Analyze genomic data to identify trends, patterns, and genetic markers relevant to malaria transmission.

Data Analysis and Modeling:

  • Utilize advanced statistical and computational methods to analyze largescale genomic datasets.
  • Develop and implement spatial genomic models to identify areas acting as sources and sinks of malaria transmission across Mozambique.
  • Integrate data from different sources, including dense sampling and health facility surveillance data, to make comprehensive assessments.

Mapping Prevalence of Diagnostic and Drug Resistance Mutations:

  • Collaborate with fellow researchers to generate maps illustrating the prevalence of these mutations.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate closely with the GenMoz2 Project team and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Present research findings through publications, presentations, and reports.

Skills:

  • Ph

D Degree:
Hold a Ph.
D. in a relevant field, with a strong background in genomics, epidemiology, or related disciplines.

  • Research Experience: Demonstrated experience in conducting genomic epidemiology research, particularly in infectious diseases, is essential.
  • Statistical Proficiency: Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, STATA, Python) and the ability to analyze and interpret complex genomic and epidemiological data.
  • Collaboration: A proven track record of successful collaboration with research institutions, governmental bodies, or international health organizations.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex research findings effectively to diverse audiences.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Portuguese or other relevant languages in Mozambique is desirable.

Conditions:

  • Duration: 36 months
  • Starting date: April 2024
  • Contract: Fulltime
  • Salary Range: According to ISGlobal Salary scale
