The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide.


This position is located in the Platform Support Unit (PSU) within the Infrastructure Operations Section (IOS) of the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunication Technologies (SGITT) at UNGSC, Valencia, Spain.

The incumbent will report to the Chief PSU or other designated officer.

Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Acts as focal point for receipt and processing of user requests.
  • Maintains regular contact with users and technical staff in user offices and provides support as required.
  • Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies.
  • Supports operations on hybrid cloud services and onprem infrastructure at data centres as well as overlay onto existing hosted server network.
  • Contributes to develop scripts for operation process automation based on systems engineering and configuration management frameworks.
  • Continually explores, evaluates and recommends advanced technologies to provide higher quality service, scalability and modern architectural standards.
  • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
  • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification
Certification in ITIL is desirable.

Certification in Prince 2 Foundation is desirable.

Any Cloud certification is desirable.

Any Virtualization certification are desirable.

Work Experience

Experience with virtualization or containerization technologies in complex and multilocation environments is desirable.

Experience in managing virtual environments, monitoring tools and public cloud services is desirable.

Experience supporting multi location enterprise grade data centre is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
