ABOUT THIS ROLE

The International Insurance Project Lead role at Descartes is vital for the strategic design and seamless implementation of international policy frameworks, essential for the company's growth and expansion.

As the International Insurance Project Lead , your responsibilities will span across three main areas:

OPERATIONAL

  • Overseeing international policy issuance worldwide across various branches and regions, covering risks from Wildfire to Cyclone, Cyber to geographical regions like Chile and New Zealand, and a range of policies from Excess and Surplus to local programs with multiple reinsurers;
  • Managing premium payments directly or through partners, ensuring timely follow-up;
  • Coordinating complex program deployments in collaboration with departments like Finance, Legal, and Underwriting to facilitate seamless operations.

NEGOTIATION

  • Identifying and engaging with new partners to support global expansion and diversification of product offerings, leveraging local networks for strategic partnerships;
  • Regular communication with fronting partners to negotiate favorable terms and conditions.

REGULATORY

  • Establishing expertise in international tax rates, regulatory requirements, local retention policies, and all aspects of international insurance compliance;
  • Providing essential support to the business by furnishing accurate information for international client coverages;
  • Drafting, coordinating, and approving cooperation agreements between Descartes and fronting companies, ensuring regulatory compliance. Reporting to the COO.

ABOUT YOU

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a Master's degree from a Business or Law school;
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of international experience;
  • Preference for candidates with a background in international network teams of brokerage firms or insurance companies.

SKILLS

  • Proficiency in English and Spanish (both written and verbal);
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical abilities and financial knowledge.
