General Description:
The open position is within the Environment and Human Rights Corporate Department, one of the four areas reporting to Telefonica's Chief Sustainability Officer. The mission of the department is to design, develop, and implement strategies and actions related to sustainability topics such as the environment, climate change, sustainable supply chain management, and human rights. This is done on a global scale, impacting all geographies and businesses within Telefonica.Main Functions:
The sustainability expert we are looking for will oversee various projects related to sustainable finance and its financial impact. This includes:
  • Participation in Telefonica's annual corporate report of non-financial information, following CSRD requirements.
  • Internal control of non-financial information and support in auditing processes.
  • Participation in climate change risks and opportunities related to financial impact and planning.
  • Climate Action Plan related to financial planning.
  • Implementation of projects to address new regulatory requirements.
  • Defining processes and supporting internal transformation projects globally in collaboration with other teams and companies within the Telefonica Group.
  • Definition, monitoring, and assurance of KPIs.
Development and Implementation of the European Sustainable Finance Framework:
  • Environmental technical screening criteria for the implementation and verification of different activities.
  • Social minimum safeguards implementation.
  • Internal control of non-financial information and support in auditing processes.
Development and Implementation of Sustainability Projects related to Sustainable Finance:
  • For example, Carbon fund and carbon pricing.
Support in the issuance of green bonds, annual impact report, and internal control processes implementation.Participation in interdepartmental groups across different geographies for project implementation and stakeholder engagement.Reporting on mentioned topics: Providing feedback to relevant ESG ratings/rankings.Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences or related fields; other degrees like Business, Legal, Science, or Engineering with a postgraduate in the environment will also be considered.
  • Previous experience in sustainable finance topics will be an advantage, such as work with green/sustainable bonds or loans, carbon funds, or carbon pricing.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in sustainability, either in a company or consultancy.
  • Prior experience in environment/climate change is required.
  • Understanding of regulatory environments, especially EU-level initiatives on sustainability matters and reporting obligations.
Languages:
  • High-level fluency in English and Spanish is essential.
  • Additional languages are valued, with a focus on Portuguese and German.
Skills:
  • Passion for sustainability trends and challenges.
  • Strong project management skills with attention to detail and comfort in ambiguous situations.
  • Analytical skills to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Experience in complex and international organizational environments.
  • Excellent communication and writing abilities.
  • Capability to deliver reports, presentations, Q&As, and papers.
