Associate director,
Functional Project Managment to join our
Business planning and operations team within our broader
Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS) organisation.

The role is based in Barcelona (Spain) but will work with stakeholders globally.


As part of the CPSS Project Management team you will get the opportunity to learn about how CPSS play a vital role in delivery of preclinical safety and Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) to projects and thus contributes to the delivery of the AstraZeneca portfolio.

In our dynamic environment, you will be supported by the brightest minds working together side by side. Agile and collaborative, our team work cross-functionally, as well as externally, to thrive at pace.

What you will do:


As an Associate director, Functional Project Management, you will work directly with internal stakeholders including project toxicologists, DMPK project leads, Study Monitors and Global Project Managers, as well as with external collaborators at contract research organisations.

You will be responsible for planning, budgeting, outsourcing and monitor delivery to the agreed time, budget, and quality. This role is vital to ensure our drug project plans continually improve and develop, resulting in high quality data.


You will act as an expert source of knowledge and initiate and drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring that project teams adopts the required tools and processes.

You will help coach junior staff and may provide supervision of external contractors.

Essential in the role:

  • Qualification in project management, or equal experience
  • Previous project delivery to multiple projects/customers
  • An understanding of drug discovery and development
  • Knowledge of identifying, mitigating and managing potential risks

Desirable in the role:

  • Invivo experience
  • Bioanalytical experience
  • Knowledge of working with GLP and GXP
  • Experience of regulatory environments
  • Experience working at or with contract research organisations (CROs)
