Applications will be reviewed beginning June 17, 2024. The start date for the position is flexible, but would preferably be no later than September 2024.
This position is located within a health-care facility, therefore, the successful candidate will be required to provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by a provincial health mandate.

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral fellow position at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The successful candidate will be co-supervised by Dr. Lori Brotto (Professor) in the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology alongside multidisciplinary experts in the women's health research community. Research activities will occur at the Women's Health Research Institute at BC Women's Hospital.
This is a full-time position for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional 2 years. The expected salary range for this position is $55,000/year to $70,000/year.
The UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has training programs at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make innovative advancements in knowledge and translate it to practice to improve health. The Department consists of more than 300 physicians and scientists as well as over 50 administrative, research, and technical staff. This post-doctoral fellowship is offered in collaboration with BC Women's Hospital and the Partnership for Women's Health Research Canada, a national alliance of women's health research institutes. Beyond the academic and postdoctoral community of the UBC campus and the Women's Health Research Institute at BC Women's Hospital, Metro Vancouver has a vibrant health economics community.
JOB SUMMARY
Construct an economic model to estimate return on investment in women's health research in at least one of three topic areas: cardiovascular disease and stroke, dementias and/or sexual dysfunction and genito-pelvic pain and disseminate the results.
With the support of a multidisciplinary supervisory team and the Women's Health Research Institute located at BC Women's Hospital, the Postdoctoral Fellow will 1) adapt a microsimulation model to estimate the return in doubling investment in an area of women's health research; 2) prepare an academic manuscript on the methodology for publication 3) complete a report of the model results and 4) with guidance from Knowledge Translation experts, create a knowledge translation product to share results, such as a blog post or LinkedIn article.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A doctoral degree in economics, health economics, or health services research.
Strong programming and analytical capabilities (e.g. R, Python, Stata).
Evidence of ability to conduct research and publish research results.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills. This position involves working with a multidisciplinary and multisectoral team that will involve academics, healthcare providers, community members, health economists and health and policy decision-makers.
Experience in research communications through presentations and publications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Expertise in economic model or health economic model analysis/ development.
Expertise in analysis and manipulation of health survey and health administrative data.
Experience building or working with microsimulation models will be considered a strong asset.
Background in health economics. Experience with healthcare costing desired.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously. Project management skills are considered an asset.
Demonstrated interest in women's health research and/or sex and gender analysis plus (SGBA+).
Interest in knowledge translation—that is, undertaking activities to communicate academic research findings to different audiences such as policy makers or the public.
