Mission:

As a Turbomachinery Design Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to design various components of the propulsion system, specifically focusing on turbomachinery such as turbines and pumps. Your mission will involve creating high-performance turbomachinery designs to support our cutting-edge microlauncher space vehicles.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, construct, and test turbopump hardware for MIURA 5 first and second-stage liquid propellant rocket engines (TEPREL-C and TEPREL-C Vac).
  • Collaborate closely with the propulsion team to ensure the seamless integration of turbomachinery components within the engine system.
  • Create detailed part production drawings that meet functional requirements through tolerance stackups.
  • Establish and manage turbomachine tolerance stackup, incorporating insights from operational simulations to determine critical interface clearances and guide manufacturing and assembly decisions.
  • Develop, revise, and review engineering documentation, including engineering models and drawings.
  • Assess hardware nonconformities and provide written dispositions for discrepancies during development, production, testing, and post-production, considering design specifications, safety, quality, cost, and timeline.
  • Write, review, and update assembly, handling, and inspection work instructions for turbopump assemblies, both for intermediate test articles and flight hardware.
  • Offer feedback to enhance performance, increase reliability, and improve manufacturability and assembly at both the design and operational levels.
  • Engage with vendors or in-house fabrication and assembly teams during the design and prototyping phases. Implement any producibility insights through design alterations and drawing updates.
  • Prepare documentation, such as user guides, guidelines, and manuals, for internal customer use.
Necessary Requirements:
  • More than 5 years of experience utilizing CAD for designing parts/assemblies (preference for SIEMENS NX).
  • Proficiency in written and oral English, with exceptional communication skills.
Desired Requirements:
  • Understanding of CAD software, engineering principles, and manufacturing processes related to turbomachinery.
  • Ability to manage suppliers for various needs, including assembly/fabrication tooling support, rotor balance, casting, bearings, and seals.
  • Experience in one or more areas such as mechanical design of turbomachinery, design of bearings and seals/mechanical elements for rocket turbopump applications, and manufacturing/producing turbopump hardware.
