The purpose of this role is to develop and execute on the business strategies and plans for the EPICS region (Spain, Portugal, Israel, Switzerland), aligned with the overall global and regional strategic objectives. Additionally, it involves leading the activities of the hub to achieve its short and long-term financial and operational goals, which requires team leadership and people management, distributor management, and oversight of sales, profitability, cost, productivity, market share, market access and customer experience.

The role also entails managing the company in compliance with legislation, company guidelines, and objectives, while adhering to sound financial and personnel management principles.

As the responsible party for business development, this role involves setting and monitoring country-specific sales, profit, expense, marketing, market access, and customer experience objectives, as well as overseeing all distributor and business activities in the market. This includes strategic planning and alliances, managing sales channels, services, and resources, with a specific focus on achieving market growth, business development, services, and driving customer experience.

What you will do

Business Management that includes:

  • Manage the business of the hub in accordance with Cochlear's global and regional strategy, guidelines, policies and objectives and ensure that all local legislation is complied with.
  • Develop and execute on new business opportunities.
  • Effectively and efficiently coordinate the organization to ensure the customers and candidates perceive Cochlear as the leading product and service provider of implantable hearing solutions within the industry (increasing the number of candidate referrals and recipients).
  • Effectively and efficiently manage external partnerships and alliances providing services to recipients (e.g. Certified Service Partner Network and Cochlear Service Points in clinics) including but not exclusive to annual reviews of agreements, annual business planning, forecasts, regular business meetings, product training, pricing decisions, tender management support and other as necessary to meet the business objectives.
  • Maintain regular high level of personal contact and build relationships with key stakeholders and influential entities, such as KOLs, purchasing organizations, government driven bodies and agencies.
  • Develop and manage long term and annual business plans, budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the Vice President Western Europe, EMEA Functional Heads and Finance, ensure budgets and expense targets are met.
  • Develop and execute annual business plan(s) and monitor business performance against plan, budget and undertake corrective action where necessary.

Distribution Management

  • Relationship building and communication with distributors. Maintain open communication channels with the distributor. Regularly meet to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities. Build a strong partnership based on trust, transparency, mutual accountability and mutual respect.
  • Compliance and legal requirements: Ensure that the distributor adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Performance management: Define clear KPIs for the distributor, including sales targets, market share, market growth, customer satisfaction metrics, forecast accuracy and inventory turnover rates. Regularly review KPI performance and provide constructive feedback. Celebrate achievements and address any gaps.
  • Market growth: Work closely with the distributor to identify growth opportunities.
  • Market access: Collaborate with the distributor to enhance market access.

Sales Management

  • Formulate sales strategy and develop sales forecast, budget & resource plans.
  • Leading the overall sales process with multiple stakeholders to achieve sales targets. If required, lead directly major negotiations.
  • Oversee account and event meetings for the hub to ensure Cochlear supplies the highest level of service to the customer base
  • Assess the competitive threat to Cochlear within the territory and implement pro-active tactics in line with the strategic plan to counter threats.
  • Align with EMEA and Global Sales Excellence and endorse their proposals.

Marketing and Market Access Management

  • Regularly analyse decision making process for Hearing Implants, and determine actions required to ensure Cochlear activity and investment is adequate in the market segment to drive the "branded product referral" process.
  • Continually assess all aspects of healthcare development and national funding processes, determine areas of influence for Cochlear and take active steps to assist clinics to secure funding in a "branded re-imbursement" method and expand the market.
  • Support the role out of Standard of Care, seek support from national stakeholders to achieve endorsement.
  • Ensure successful product introductions in the country as defined by the EMEA marketing strategy.
  • Ensure planning and execution of training workshops, symposia, conferences, etc for the country.
  • Develop good working relationships with the media, both lay and scientific, thereby ensuring full coverage of developments and milestones for the Company and for clinics within the region in conjunction with regional marketing.
  • Develop and execute growth strategies and ensure effective execution with clear metrics to assess growth.

People Management and Organizational development

  • Recruit, build, lead, engage, evaluate and develop the team and organization to fulfill the business objectives and achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction and to comply with all relevant regulations, policies, quality standards and laws.
  • Ensure all team members are and remain fully trained on the full range of Cochlear hearing solutions in order to service customers effectively and efficiently and present Cochlear as a professional and competent team
  • Manage performance (objective setting, appraisals, coaching) with all direct reports and ensure development needs are addressed and training is timely completed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Higher business education/university degree
  • Proven record of minimum 8 years sales, marketing, business development experience (senior role) in medical device industry (e.g. chronic healthcare, surgical area)
  • 5 to 8 years management experience across different functions or general management experience in similar role
  • In-depth understanding of health systems within the region
  • Proven strong leadership, people management and organizational development skills (successful management of large team)
  • Relevant country/local culture knowledge and business acumen. Full professional proficiency of English and Spanish.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and collaborative skills to build relationships with broader set of stakeholders
  • Strong Customer focus (B2B and B2C)
  • Dynamic and results-oriented
  • An ability to work within a variety of European cultures / culturally sensitive.
