Context of the role


We're looking for a DBA who's passionate about the Fintech industry, loves to support partners and wants to work in a disruptive, fast-growing and exciting environment.

You will lead the Collections Data team (one junior DBA and you).

The role will bring you great opportunities to work on various projects, collaborating with a diverse range of partners and teams.


One of the main challenges of the Collections Data team will be to rethink the way data is used in the system to scale at a fast pace to support dynamic growth all over the world.

You will collaborate closely with developers and software architects to continuously optimize the Thunes Cross-Border Payment platform.


Processing millions of transactions per month and interconnecting hundreds of partners from all around the world, Thunes is continuously growing its coverage and footprint in the industry.

What you will get to do:

  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring system health and performance, to ensure high performance levels, availability, and security
  • Propose new strategies to scale out the platform, in collaboration with Software Architects and other Technical Leads
  • Maintain and optimize the complete backup strategy
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in realtime, providing problem resolution endtoend
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement
  • Assist software architects in rethinking the solution to scale out (partitioning strategy, enabling horizontal scalability, etc.)
  • Export relevant data to the Thunes Data Lake in collaboration with the Thunes Data Team

On a daily basis, the role will involve you to:

  • Be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems
  • Be responsible to extract value from Thunes's data by exporting key activity date to the existing Thunes Data Lake
  • Work closely with different internal teams to understand and support operational processes and new solutions/to help them to expand our coverage and services
  • Always keep a solution mindset and look for improvements that you can bring to the organization
  • Work with an agile and expanding team, offering mentoring, training and management to junior member
  • Develop excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • 8+ years experience as a DBA of which at least 3 years were spent with MS SQL Server Enterprise "Always on" technologies
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  • High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
  • Experience as a Data Engineer requiring solid technical skills
  • Technology agnostic, eager to explore NoSQL solutions, to leverage Cloud solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work effectively, multitask, agile and take responsibility in challenging situations
  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, team player, getitdone" personality
