Job title:
Learning Support Assistant

Reporting to:
Head of Key Stage and Head of Primary and EYFSJOB SUMMARY


To work under the supervision of a teacher to provide support for teaching and learning and associated activities in accordance with school policies and procedures.

This may include providing general support for whole class learning activities, or supporting individuals or small groups of pupils.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General:

  • Support teachers and students by preparing appropriate lesson materials as directed
  • Lead small group/individual interventions to support the implementation of Edukey action plans, to help students experiencing difficulties or to extend students in their learning
  • Carry out administrative roles such as photocopying, organizing reading books, organizing storage etc
  • Escort and supervise children at break times, on school trips, and general movement around the school
  • Help make sure classrooms are safe and tidy
- upholding all policies, including behavior of all students

  • Step in to manage the class in the absence of the teacher, when required

Monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting:

  • Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved during group or individual intervention work, and provide feedback to the teacher Mark and monitor student's work where required, and provide feedback to the teacher
  • Contribute towards recording keeping about pupil progress where required
  • Provide any relevant information to the class teacher which may contribute towards reporting to parents.

Pastoral care:

  • Motivating and encouraging students
  • Undertaking pastoral and tutorial duties, and supporting students on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties; monitor attendance and punctuality and report any concerns to Parents and Head of Year Pastoral Deputy Head or the Head of Secondary as appropriate.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Education and Skills:

Essential:

  • Successful experience in working with children
  • Excellent management skills and able to follow the school's disciplinary code.
  • Full understanding of Equal Opportunities and able to implement it in everyday practice.

Desirable:

  • Further qualifications and track record of professional development.
  • Successful experience in working within a UK school or supporting the delivery of the UK curriculum
