Do you want to join a leading assistance company and work with a multicultural team? We are looking for a Lead Doctor to join our team 

He/she will be to be in charge for leads our travel medical team in Barcelona, consisting of both nurses and medical doctors. They act as local clinical expert for complex medical cases and provide the medical team with high quality medical support, supervision and orientation.They assess customer’s needs and co-ordinate with the Medical Team to create appropriate/efficient action plans to ensure their optimum safety and care, including international evacuation and repatriations, participate in Crisis Cell as required and reinforce our Barcelona Office as a centre of medical excellence.

The Barcelona Medical Team provides medical assistance 24 hours a day/365 day a year to our customers around the world. They also decide cover on medical incident claims (including trip cancellation), and provide support on recoveries, invoice audit, and Telemedicine services. The position holder interfaces with the Medical Team in Barcelona, the Operations Teams, as well as the Acute Care Centers for escalation of complex cases, and the remaining 32 AXA offices globally who support the AXA Assistance medical service.

Who are you?

The role covers the coordination with the Acute Care Centers for complex cases. For this aim it will be needed to interact with the ACC medical teams to decide the best medical option for each case. These discussions may involve medical team from other assistance companies, and the treating doctor of the patients.

The role implies being the first escalation stage for medical assessment to the team.

The position holder is in regular contact with other team within AXA: HR, underwriting, commercial team, customer experience, and working relationship with Heads IMS and Group CMO.

What does your daily role entail?

-Ensure that the medical team are effectively processing medical assistance cases in accordance with our procedures for international medical assistance.

-Ensure a 24/7 medical coverage, including on call Drs. Validate internal escorts (when our nurse or Dr. travel to repatriate a patient) and medical equipment needed.

-Lead the medical team ensuring a collaborative and productive team spirit. Monitor productivity and participate into size requirement definition.

-Responsible for ensuring that patients are evaluated and receive medical care at the highest level of medical expectation within the group (generally at the level of the most developed healthcare systems)

-Monitor the quality of service delivered by all medical team members and identifying any training requirements or senior intervention.

-Medical Lead and decision making in the medical team’s daily case review meeting when on duty.

-Ensure support for all team members on a consultative basis as required – to include daily case reviews, and any relevant matters.

-Active case management of our more complex medical assistance cases.

-Advise on the most appropriate repatriation plan if applicable.

-Meet the needs of ATI’s and local clients by ensuring that patients, relatives, travelling companions are given reassurance and medical advice during the provision of medical assistance services, including direct contact with these customers where necessary.

-Provide support to operational teams through effective communication to co-ordinators and agents as required.

-Ensure accurate medical records are recorded on the company’s computer system.

-Ensure optimum communication and support between medical and operational teams, so that they work as one team.

-Provide guidance on clinical governance and ensuring continuous improvements in medical operational service delivery;

-Be part of the escalation process for medical, repatriation, Red Flags or any delicate case queries.

-Participate in Crisis Cell when activated.

-Support AXA Partners strategy and in particular actions to digitalize our processes, reduce average costs, and increase productivity.

-Support development and implementation of any medical services offered by the geo, including, but not limited to tele-consultation, corporate mobility, 2nd Opinion programs and other emergency and non-emergency products.

-Supports Medical network department.

-Understand and demonstrate the culture and values within AXA.

Your Profile

·An experienced, self-motivated professional person with a high level of customer focus.

·At least 10 years clinical experience.

·Evidence of current professional registration with the appropriate professional body.

·Minimum 5 years in Critical Setting – ITU, A+E, Internal Medicine with critical care experience

·Maintains currency in clinical practice.

·Knowledge of indications/contraindications of medical transport, particularly aeromedical

·Experience in disaster medicine

·Minimum 3 years experience in worldwide medical assistance.

·Excellent communication and organisational skills.

·Negotiation level (C1) of Spanish and English, French being a plus.

·Experience in managing teams of professionals.

·I.T. skills, including Word, Excel & PowerPoint.

·Adaptability and able to work under pressure.

·A commitment to the development of the company through setting high standards.

·A willingness to undertake new challenges, and work across functions under own initiative.

·To act as a change agent and be an influencer to achieve business targets.
