Packaging Specialist Engineer

• Organized, methodical, meticulous and cooperative person.

• Experience with ERP, PDM/PLM software’s (Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, SAP, Expertis…). 

• Experience with CAD software (NX and SolidWorks). 

• Engineering degree. 

• Fluent in Spanish (C2), English (C1) and German (B2). 

• Familiar with packaging engineering materials, logistics, production, GD&T, KPI’s… 

• Knowledge of ISO Packaging Regulations, Certifications, and national and European regulations for automotive packaging. 

• Knowledge of International Standards in security for goods such as ISTA, ASTM and EN. 

• Knowledge in Waste Laws, recycling and pollution reduction. 

• Profound knowledge about state-of-the-art packaging solutions in automotive business. 

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing production principles and management of continuous improvement tools (5S, TPM, Kanban, Kaizen, Smed etc.).  

• Microsoft Office Advanced level (Excel, PowerPoint, Access…). 

• Strong logistic background in automotive industry.  

• Knowledge of agile Scrum Methodology. 

• Knowledge of packaging materials, techniques and standards. 

• Work experience in the automotive sector as Packaging
  engineer (+ 4 years). 

• Teamwork and Result orientation. 

• Big-picture thinking. 

• Good Communication skills and team working. 

• Programming skills will be a plus (SQL / Python).

• Proactive mindset from a SQDC and HSE perspective. 

GENERAL ROLES 

• Engineer for packaging development (internal and external packaging). 

• Interface with Project Management for customers packaging requirements and with Industrialization Management for industrialization packaging requirements. 

• Interface with Non-Productive Materials Purchasing for supplier quotations. 

• Interface with Plant Logistics for requirements and normative to be respected. 

• Interface with Health&Safety for handling and ergonomics requirements. 

• Technical point of contact for packaging suppliers. 

• Packaging new technologies and innovation Benchmarking.  

DESIGN & REGULATIONS 

• Definition and control of Packaging KPI's. Reporting of profitability and productivity indicators. 

• Development, configuration and optimization of packaging from conception to commissioning, operation, verification and certification. 

• Evaluation of processes, taking measurements and interpretation of data. Development of action plans for continuous improvement. 

• Standarization of common packaging for process optimization: Gitterbox, Multipacks… 

• Optimization of actual serial packaging. 

• Design and Samples validation (testing, simulation...). 

• Packaging requirements management in Polarion (mechanical, industrialization, Health&Safety, Normatives&Rules, Cleanliness, Route, Quality...). 

• Design 2D, 3D of internal and external packagings CAD Software (NX, Solidworks). 

• Creating packaging designs and coordinating with packaging suppliers, assuring that all proposals are aligned with regulatory, technical and marketing requirements while following the internal/client packaging guidelines. 

• Evaluation of packaging alternatives, preliminary BOM coordination with purchasing TEAM to define suppliers and costs. Providing input on manufacturability and costs, providing trial testings in order to obtain the best product performance. 

• Promote initiatives to improve the sustainability of the packaging and assure the best design. 

• Supervision to assure supplier’s compliance to internal specifications. 

COSTS RELATED 

• Improvement of packaging costs. Packaging Budget analysis and control. 

• Monitoring and optimization of packaging cost control processes in the production process, including on-site measurement of assembly times and consumption. 

• Control and monitoring of the budget allocated to each specific project item and process, measuring, preventing and avoiding deviations.  

LOGISTICS RELATED 

• Analysis of real transport conditions, cost savings and losses. 

• Carrying out simulations of transport and logistics routes. 

• Modeling and Simulation of logistics routes. Analysis of vibrations during transport. Detailed study of packaging behavior during transport. 

• Packaging Testing: Transport, Stacking and Drop tests. 

• Ergonomic analysis of packaging transport. 

• Generation of norms and regulations for packaging stocked in the Warehouses. 

PRODUCCIÓN  

• Carrying out risk assessments during assembly, storage and transport. 

• Preparation of operating instructions and packaging documentation.  

• Independent implementation of the process specifications to ensure production supply. 

• Packaging (customer / internal / supplier) rework / maintenance / cleaning.  

Supervision of:  

• Supervision of assembly and preparation of packaging trials 

• Creation of internal references and assignation to structural BOM supervision 

• Returnable packaging transfer between different production plants and customers control supervision 

• Creation in SAP an account for the returnable packaging with OEM’s supervision 

• Standard OEM Packaging In/Out control and update in OEM’s e-Portal supervision 

• Supervision of Stock taking organization of the OEM’s containers and follow up of the differences 

• Supervision of Stock taking organization of the internal packaging that is moved between different locations including suppliers.  

• Packaging Graphs and reports and EDI/ASN for Customers and Suppliers supervision 

• Supervision of on-time availability of packaging for projects 

• Supervision of Packaging instructions Returnable packaging/ internal/external
