The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the Department of Pediatrics at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time, term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Without Review) in Reproductive Infectious Diseases. This is a full-time, term position for a period of one year, with the possibility of renewal to a maximum of three years.

The UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has training programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make innovative advancements in knowledge and translate it to practice to improve health. The Department consists of more than 300 physicians and scientists as well as over 70 administrative, research, and technical staff. Specialty training programs are offered in gynaecologic oncology, maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, and infertility, as well as clinical fellowships in reproductive infectious diseases, endometriosis, pelvic pain and advanced laparoscopic surgery, family planning, vulvovaginal health and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

The Gynaecologic Specialties Division at UBC is distinguished by its alliance with a very dynamic graduate program where both M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs of study are offered. It provides students with a broad knowledge of mammalian reproductive and developmental biology, as well as with in-depth expertise in at least one area of research, including reproductive infectious diseases, endometriosis, pelvic pain and advanced laparoscopic surgery, family planning, vulvovaginal health and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. Both programs involve course work and completion of a thesis based on research carried out by the student. The successful candidate is expected to teach and supervise students in this program.

The Department of Pediatrics of the University of British Columbia, British Columbia Children’s Hospital, is one of the largest Pediatric Departments in Canada. Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, through their Division Head of Gynaecologic Specialties, the successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program and have the opportunity to lead interdisciplinary research through collaboration with the other departments in the UBC. The successful candidate will also be actively engaged with appropriate colleagues in the newly formed Academy of Translational Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department, as well as provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners.

The successful candidate will hold a MD, Ph.D. or equivalent credentials with postdoctoral experience. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability in scholarly activity, preferably with a record of scientific research

publications in scholarly journals, and will be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching Proven experience in conceiving, establishing, and executing research projects, preferably in reproductive health or related fields is an asset.

In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own, and a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The expected academic salary for this position is $135,000 per annum.
