Senior Scientist, Translational Bioinformatics, CITRE-based

CITRE, based in Seville, Spain, is Bristol Myers Squibb's research institute in Europe, and our link to the European research community.

At IPS (Informatics & Predictive Sciences) we perform innovative computational research to inform decisions across all stages of drug development. Areas of research include computational and network biology, machine/deep learning, cheminformatics, predictive modeling, patient stratification, and method development for analysis and interpretation of biological data.

We seek a computational biologist to fill a job position as Senior Scientist, Translational Bioinformatics . The successful candidate will join a broad and cross-functional scientific community, at the leading-edge of therapeutic innovation, to serve as a central node in our precision discovery efforts. The position requires a multi-disciplinary profile with advanced computational skills rooted in in-depth knowledge of disease biology (oncological diseases) and driven by a strong motivation to transform the lives of cancer patients . Main goal is dissecting molecular complexity to gain a better understanding of disease heterogeneity, informing highly precise drug development. Are you up for the challenge?

Analy tic work will focus on exploratory analysis of multi-omics (data types including WGS, WES, and bulk/sc/st-RNA-seq) and clinical data from both patients and ex-vivo models. This involves predictive modelling (including statistical methods and modern data science techniques), advanced visualizations, and delivery of impactful data packages to stakeholders in the research organization, among other specific tasks. In addition to the internal duties, the successful candidate will engage with the external scientific community through collaborations, scientific articles, communications to congresses, etc.

The position would suit an individual with strong biological and computational capabilities , together with excellent resourcefulness, communication and collaboration skills. Applications are encouraged from candidates involved in innovative translational research in oncology at a clinical , academic or industrial research settings.

Responsibilities
  • Apply computational methods for patient stratification based on integration of multi-omic datasets.
  • Drive in-depth analysis of stratified patient data to elucidate biological and driver mechanisms in key oncology indications.
  • Contribute to developing classifiers based on molecular data to validate patient segments in clinical cohorts.
  • Contribute to the identification of ex-vivo models and validation scenarios to accurately represent key disease subtypes in experimental settings.
  • Work with colleagues in the Informatics & Predictive Sciences group to identify drivers of disease heterogeneity and potential therapeutic targets for patients in unmet need.
  • Collaborate with experimental teams in the iterative validation of therapeutic and mechanistic hypotheses.
  • Summarize analysis results and report conclusions to BMS decision-making bodies.
Qualifications
  • PhD with 2+, or MS with 4+ years of experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics or related fields. Experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industries is a plus.
  • Strong experience in the use of a high-level programming language such as R, MATLAB, Python, Perl for complex data analysis and reproducible research practices.
  • Good understanding of disease biology and molecular mechanisms in oncology.
  • Experience working with Next Generation Sequencing datasets, including Whole-Genome, Whole-Exome Sequencing, and RNA-seq (bulk, single-cell, spatial transcriptomics).
  • Familiarity with contemporary cloud and high-performance computing environments.
  • Expertise in application of contemporary machine-learning/AI approaches is a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to handle several concurrent, fast-paced projects while conforming with rigorous requirements of clinical studies.
