As part of our growth strategy and our plans to establish state-of-the-art Research Teams for our Vegetable Business Unit, we are looking for aPhytopathology Assistant (m/f/d), based at KWS Vegetables’ breeding station in Spain (Murcia).The Phytopathology Assistant will support the Research Scientist Phytopathology in the department needs. Areas of expertise include plant pathology (including virology, mycology, entomology, and nematology), routine testing, diagnostics and disease monitoring, with a focus on routine application of methodologies to support the breeding process. You will report to the Research Scientist Phytopathology Vegetables located in Spain. The intended starting date for this position on January 9th, 2023.Job purposeContribute to the competitiveness of the worldwide KWS vegetable breeding portfolio by developing and implementing technologies, methodologies, and protocols. You will support the development and execution of all tasks related with the phytopathology department including routine disease testing, diagnostics and disease monitoring, development of resistance screening protocols, lab maintenance and implementation of hygiene measures.Key Success FactorsImplement and execute protocols for routine disease testing for the vegetable cropsActive and efficient collaboration with breeding and farm teams to support breeding needsPrecise trial setup and accurate data collectionPhytopathology lab maintenance with the proper quality standardsImplement and execute of hygiene protocols for the vegetable cropsYour Tasks:Assist and support the Research Scientist of Phytopathology in optimizing the efficiency and output of the department tasksCollaborate in the development of protocols for routine disease testing and in charge of the implementation and execution of these testsDesign, coordinate with breeders and set up the phyto trials in greenhouse and climate cellData collection of resistance screening tests including data analysis and report elaborationSupport Research Scientist of Phytopathology in implementation and execution of hygiene measures in phyto facilitiesResponsible of pathogen database, and proper maintenance of stock pathogens to ensure the availability of inoculum for trialsPhyto lab maintenanceManage farm personnel: plan, organize, conduct, provide follow up the daily work including sowings, transplanting, samplings, trial removalYour profile:BSc or MSc in Biology, Horticulture, Plant Breeding or a closely related disciplineWorking experience in the field of plant pathology is a plusLanguage skills: Spanish and English (good)Good communication and analytical skillsTeam player and good interpersonal skillsWillingness to travel internationallyDo you recognize yourself in this job description or would you like to know more about this role within KWS Vegetables, please apply now .
