About you and this role

We have an interesting opportunity as Senior Paralegal in our office of Madrid, Spain. The senior Paralegal handles a wide range of very complex legal work under the direction of an Attorney in order to support the objectives of the Legal department, dependent upon their practice area. Requires advanced skills or specialized expertise in operational processes or procedures to perform a broad range of complex work assignments. Acts as a working team lead, providing subject matter guidance and coordinating work of others. Works autonomously within established procedures and practices; proposing improvements to processes and methods as needed. Solves complex problems that arise with little or no precedent. Understands how teams, in the [practice area] and broader organization, coordinate efforts and resources for maximum impact. Demonstrates advanced skills and expertise sufficient to perform a broad range of complex assignments within an area of authority using discretion and initiative. Evaluates and effectively communicates appropriate for the audience advanced information and ideas and exhibits tact and diplomacy when working with others. Demonstrates strong attention to detail, is self-motivated, able to work autonomously with minimal assistance from colleagues, is persistent to follow tasks through to completion, and proactively leads others in practice area towards solutions and opportunities for improvement within the work group. Has deep understanding of company policies (e.g., Dow's Authorization Policy), guidelines, and internal controls, and ensures work is compliant with policies, guidelines, and controls, and provides guidance to others. Identifies and implements solutions in situations that are atypical or occur infrequently based on precedents or established operating procedures that may not always be readily known or available. Acts as a specialist in [practice area] and demonstrates consistent critical thinking, judgment, and information management skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively across all roles and levels in the function and Company. Comprehends how individual and team contributions impact the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of broader organizational objectives and drives the team toward its goals. Ensures opportunities to modify work practices and processes further the organizational strategy in addition to achieving results and improving efficiency for the broader work team.

In this role, you will require advanced level of skills and expertise in administrative, data organization, and coordination processes, procedures, and associated systems or specialized technical expertise with analytical/scientific methods or operational processes. You should be able to perform a broad range of complex assignments and understand how teams coordinate efforts and resources to achieve organizational objectives. You will need to have the ability to evaluate and explain unusual and/or complex information use tact and diplomacy when communicating with others.

It is your responsibility to be able to gather and analyze data to identify and resolve unique, complex, or unusual problems. You will be required to provide subject matter guidance to less experienced team members and serve as a specialist or lead for the team with no formal supervisory responsibilities. Your performance impacts your own team and other teams with closely related work activities. You are expected to suggest improvements to existing processes and solutions to improve overall team efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Drafts and/or reviews agreements, external communications, or other documents.

  • Prepares for hearings, trials, or transaction closings.

  • Assists with fact investigations, researching relevant cases and issues.

  • Manages document reviews or other projects.

  • Coordinates with vendors, outside counsel, and experts.

  • Shares knowledge with peers, team members, and other work groups as appropriate.

  • Directs work of contractors or other paralegals.

  • Develops and manages work processes, procedures, and other systems.

  • Develops and conducts Legal and/or Company training programs.

  • Represents [practice area], Legal, and/or Company on cross-function projects and/or at external meetings and administrative hearings.

  • Stands out as a go-to resource and expert to others in practice area.

  • Leads teams on projects in practice area (e.g. work process improvement projects) and manages related communications and training.

Qualifications

  • Required education: Bachelor Degree, or other applicable 4-year degree.

  • You speak fluent English and another European language is highly desirable.

Additional notes

  • No relocation support is provided for this position.

  • This is part time job, in principle 50%.
